The only mention of spirits of dead folk in the New Testament are when Jesus raised them from the dead...and they were alive again. Evil spirits are a different matter. They are created beings working with the devil...not the spirits of dead people. The New Testament is full of stories about evil Spirits, but after the book of Acts, there is no mention of the Spirits posessing folk or appearing to individuals. Maybe it has to do with Hebrews 2:14" ...so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-that is the devil." It is SO common for people to take the Lords name in vain. T.V. is flooded with people saying "Oh my God!". We were taught growing up that saying "Oh my God" was blasphemy. Do you believe it is? If so, how can I explain to others that it is taking the Lord's name in vain? Blasphemy means to speak stupidly, contemptuously or without reverence for God...denying his power and majesty. Generally the world says "Oh my God" without understanding who God is. When I hear it, I want to say...I am glad to hear that you believe in the God of good gifts. We, as believers, can use the phrase as genuine recognition of the great gifts of God, but it is not a good thing to do unless an explanation is given. There are a many things about the spirit world we do not understand. Ghosts are generally thought of as the spirits of people who have died. In I Samuel 28, King Saul had the experience of Samuel's spirit being raised. It seems the witch was startled when it actually happened. The only mention of spirits of dead folk in the New Testament are when Jesus raised them from the dead...and they were alive again. Evil spirits are a different matter. They are created beings working with the devil...not the spirits of dead people. The New Testament is full of stories about evil Spirits, but after the book of Acts, there is no mention of the Spirits posessing folk or appearing to individuals. If so, how can I explain to others that it is taking the Lord's name in vain? Blasphemy means to speak stupidly, contemptuously or without reverence for God...denying his power and majesty. Generally the world says "Oh my God" without understanding who God is. When I hear it, I want to say...I am glad to hear that you believe in the God of good gifts. We, as believers, can use the phrase as genuine recognition of the great gifts of God, but it is not a good thing to do unless an explanation is given. Katrina I need some ideas on how to teach kindergarten thru 5th grade the story of Christmas in a fun way for 45 min The story of the birth of Jesus is important, but we must be very careful to tell the real story instead of the legendary story. Matthew uses only 7 verses in telling the story of the birth of Jesus. (1:18-25) The story of the Magi actually happened about 2 years after the birth of Jesus. (2:1-12) Herod estimated the Magi had traveled about 2 years, and the Magi went to a house, not a stable. Luke uses 7 verses on the actual birth of Jesus, and 13 verses on the announcement of the birth of Jesus by the angels. (2:1-20) It is almost as if Matthew and Luke were just making a matter-of-fact, historical announcement. I do not know how to stretch the same information found in two 7-verse accounts, which can be read in less than 1 minute into 45 minutes...even if you add the peripheral information about Elizabeth, angels, etc. The Bible emphasis is on the purpose of Jesus...not his birth.

The truth is human thinking cannot fully understand this relationship. The best way I have heard to explain the Trinity is water. Water is in three forms: solid, liquid and gas...but it is all water. The best Bible passage I know is Philippians 2: "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped (held on to), but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. I try to read the bible every day but I forget or just don't feel like reading it! what do I do to help me think about god and do things about him more often. 1. Pray. This does not mean you start off with lengthy prayers. Just pick out something you do when you get up in the morning and say a sentence or two. 2. Put something in your pocket that reminds you of God. Every time you reach into your pocket you remember. 3. Instead of just reading the Bible, study through one of our textual studies and take advantage of the games and puzzles.

Spirituality is the process of thinking about things of the heart instead of physical things. This is not specifically thinking about godly things.
